Waves Wood, Sea glass 1.5" x 2"   In progress  This sculpture reflects on my relationship with my mother. I have always associated sea glass with her because as a kid I would always give her any sea glass I found because I knew she loved it. After she passed away my dad gave me her sea glass collection and I keep it next to my bed just like she did. I chose the wood to hold the sea glass because I wanted it to be light and smooth. I rounded it out to add to this effect. I chose 3 pieces of sea glass from her collection and embedded them into the wood.   "To have a souvenir of the exotic is to possess both a specimen and a trophy."  I chose this photo of a dime that I found because in my family dimes are very special. I was always told that is you find a dime it means someone is looking out for you. After my mom passed I started finding them a lot more and every time I do I reminded that she is still with me.  I keep all the dimes I find a jar next to a photo of my mom and I. "The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale."  This is a photo I took of a bridge in Jacksonville at sunset I chose this photo to go along with this quote because I thought it was a good representation of showing scale between a person and a large object (the bridge) "The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental  and the three-dimensional into the miniature, that which can be enveloped by the body." This is a photo of a card that you get from one of those fortune telling machines. It reminds me of a very fond memory I have

Suspended Memories Foam core, fabric, straight pins, beads, glue. 2'x18" Artist Statement The relief sculpture, entitled “Suspended memories”   was inspired by the artist Kathleen Ryan as well as chapters from Diane Ackermans ‘A Natural History of the Senses’.   My intent was to visually communicate the magic of our senses and their connection to our memories. I wanted to colored areas to stand out so I painted the background black and scattered crystal and pearl beads around to communicate the idea of infinite possibilities.   I felt the work was lacking an element of disruption so I decided to cut out some of the foam core to add dimension and break up the space. I think this piece is significant because it communicates the importance of our senses and how it connects to our memories. The feeling of nostalgia that is brought about by certain smell or color is very powerful.This piece helped me to explore new ways of expression and abstract art and I hope to continue to using

Sculpture Collection Masking tape, wood glue, wood, wire, ink. 6"x 4" Reflection Statement My experimental sculpture collection entitles ‘Edges’ was inspired by several unique sculpture techniques and materials. My intent was to communicate the versatility of each material and how they can be disguised and used as interesting elements in a piece. I focused on making each sculpture unique and using different styles and materials for each one on order to show the versatility. I decided to add ink to the wood glue to add color and create a visually interesting element. I felt that the work was lacking in some structure but overall they each held their own. I want to keep exploring and learning the different materials and techniques used in abstract sculpture. This taught me to let go of representation and exposed me to new ideas that I hope to include in my future work.    

 Woman  Clay, gold paint 4"x 2" Mind Palace Clay, gold paint  3.5" x 3" Reflection Statement The clay sculpture, entitled ‘Woman” was inspired by classic sculptures and the experience of being a woman. My intent was to visually communicate the power that woman hold and the sort of realization that we are more than what people perceive. I wanted to focus on the nude form because I didn’t want it to be constricted. This woman is free and I wanted that to be recognized. I decided to use the gold paint as to not take away from the sculpture itself with too much color and I thought that it was fitting because my symbols were crowns. I felt the work was lacking an element of disruption so I decided to break one of the crowns to show that despite loss, and setbacks women still contain so much worth.This piece helped me to explore the themes of the feminine experience and I hope to continue exploring and using these ideas throughout my future work.   Research  https://www.l
